This Monday, the Court Moor School contingent of the Combined Cadet Force (CCF) were proudly on parade as they were presented with new standards by the Chairman of Fleet District Council, Councillor Dermot Smith, in the presence of many councillors, dignitaries from the Royal British Legion and parents, and supported by members of Ash Manor CCF, our sponsoring unit.

The parade commenced with the cadets marching on, followed by a welcoming speech by Captain Mark Cumner, the cadet leader, which explained the origins of the CCF and significance of the standards. Councillor Smith then gave a short speech before presenting the standards after which they were “trooped” through the ranks. Captain Cumner explained the origin of "trooping the colour", where the "colour" (the standards) are trooped (walked) through the rows of the contingent, so they are clear on what their standards look like if they need to rally to them in battle.

Many thanks to Hart District Council for giving the contingent a grant through their Armed Forces Community Grant Fund to purchase the standards, and to Dana Kavanagh and her father, Brian Wills, for providing the marvellous display stand.
