Careers Overview
Our vision is that all students will leave Court Moor confident that they have the knowledge and skills to help them build a rewarding career that matches their ability and aspirations. It is expected that students will be ready for the world of work and that by being resilient and able to cope with change they can successfully embark on life-long learning.
We want to ensure that students with special educational needs and disabilities, or those from disadvantaged groups, can aspire to and obtain any career equal with their peers. We will challenge perceptions and raise aspirations so that subject and career choices are free from gender bias and students know how to look beyond their immediate environment to new and exciting possibilities.
The school continually measures and assesses the impact of the careers programme on pupils. For example, students in Year 9 and 10 are asked to provide feedback on work experience activities, and students are asked to complete ‘Compass+’ questionnaires created by the Careers and Enterprise Company, to identify which areas of careers need reinforcing. We regularly use ‘student voice’ to ask students if there are particular jobs/sectors they would like us to cover in assemblies, and we make every effort to tailor student talks to meet their requests. Parents and staff are encouraged to contribute feedback through online surveys, and any employer involvement includes a request for their comments. The next review date for the information published is December 2026. Providers of technical education and apprenticeships are regularly invited to present information to students across both Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4: for example, we invite Basingstoke College of Technology to present an assembly to lower-school students (who inform us they want to know more about post-16 options such as apprenticeships) and to upper-school students as they begin the process of post-16 applications; we also invite ex-students who have completed apprenticeship training in various sectors such as marketing and accounting to share their experiences.
