University Life - from those who know best!
At the end of the Spring term a number of the highest achieving and hardest working Year 10 students were nominated by their teachers to attend an afternoon event about university life. A number of ex-Court Moor students who now attend some of the top universities in the country kindly volunteered to come and talk to them about their own experiences.
Set up in a 'speed dating' format, the Year 10 students circulated round the tables to talk about absolutely anything related to university life including application, types of courses, accommodation and the social life. Subjects from languages to medicine and engineering and locations from Exeter to Durham were covered by the university undergraduates.
It was fantastic to watch the relaxed conversations and feel the 'buzz' of the afternoon. The Year 10s reported that they were very interested to find out about a variety of different universities and courses that they hadn’t previously heard of, as well as the more obvious ones. The university students also very much enjoyed the afternoon and in some cases the chance to catch up with former teachers. The biscuits proved popular too! Time can pass very quickly from finishing GCSEs until making university decisions, so we hope that the event has given our students a head start when it comes to the choices they must make.
