On Thursday 13th June, 11 Year 9 students took part in the Fluor ‘STEM event for girls’. As with many aspects of the last 18 months, this took place via zoom, with the materials (and food!) being delivered for students in many local schools to use to design, build and use a device for transferring a table tennis ball. The organisers arranged for established female engineers and scientists to speak with the students about their own academic and professional experiences as well as acting as on-line advisers during the construction process. Well done to the Court Moor team who finished second in the competitive element of the day with their design.

Feedback from students included:
“Today's experience was very helpful to me and all of us who took part. All the people involved were extremely supportive and I felt comfortable enough to ask questions. The challenge enabled me to communicate with more people and get involved. Throughout the day, I was able to gain more confidence in being able to do STEM as a woman and use it in my later careers. Thank you for today's opportunity.”

And from a parent:
Thank you so much for the STEM day today - XXXXX loved it and is now very interested in engineering
