Moor Than Books: Spring
Back
Spring is finally here, and so is a new Moor Than Books selection! We encourage students to read these selections during the term.
This is a perfect opportunity to discover a new author or try a genre you wouldn’t usually choose to get yourself out of a winter reading slump.
As before, reading is not compulsory however we do strongly recommend giving the chosen book a chance!
For this term the books are:
Year 7: The Beast and the Bethany by Jack Meggitt-Phillips
Described as having the classic macabre humour of Roald Dahl but the warmth of Despicable Me, The Beast and the Bethany is a feast of a book that has themes of friendship, morality and mortality.
Year 8: Stories to Turn the World Upside Down by Pol L. Grau
An accessible and highly readable compilation of four short stories with themes of curiosity, kindness and respect for nature and diversity. All are accompanied by adorable illustrations by Silvia Roma.
Year 9: A Secret of Birds & Bone by Kiran Millwood Hargrave
From the bestselling author of The Girl of Ink and Stars, A Secret of Birds and Bone is an enchanting magical realism text set in an Italian city ravaged by plague. Follow Sofia and her brother Ermin on their journey through darkness and danger to destiny and hope.
Year 10 and 11: Legendborn by Tracy Deonn
Winner of the 2021 Coretta Scott King/John Steptoe New Talent Author award, Legendborn is a hugely popular fantastical campus novel that explores themes of grief, identity and self-discovery. This book would be perfect for anyone with an interest in Arthurian Legend, magic and fantasy or those with a penchant for badass heroines.
