Eleven of our year 9 girls took part in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) for girls event in Farnborough last Thursday. The event was organised by the SATRO education charity and sponsored by Fluor, a local engineering company.

The girls experienced eight exhibits and had hands on experience of STEM careers, from marine biology to coding to construction. Our students made a significant impact on the staff at the event and were enquiring and creative in their approach to the tasks set. The keynote speakers were inspiring and highlighted the need for more girls to go into STEM and that the opportunities within are not what they might have expected. There was a challenge competition set by the organisers, aimed at bringing out collaborative as well as design ideas which our girls won. They all enjoyed the experience and recognised it as valuable.
